Why EIVSOM Chose Learning Over Traditional Models

EIVSOM Psychosocial was built on the idea that education can become a pathway to self-awareness, better decision-making, and meaningful psychosocial change through emotional intelligence and value systems.



EIVSOM Psychosocial was never designed to simply follow a traditional counselling or coaching structure. As Dr. Robert Graves explains, EIVISOM is truly independent, allowing the organization to create another dialogue around mental states and psychosocial support in modern society. Rather than focusing only on clinical-style intervention, EIVSOM developed from research and ethnographic case studies that explored how adolescents engaged with conversations about themselves, their emotions, and their decision-making. This philosophy connects directly with the foundations described in What is EIVSOM and the framework outlined in The EIVSOM Psychosocial SPEC.


During the early research process, Dr. Graves noted that “we found it very difficult to engage these adolescents in direct conversations about emotions and personal experiences". The turning point came when the students were introduced to psychology and sociology through education. By creating “that kind of academic third-person removal from the personal,” participants naturally began connecting the material to their own lives. This became the foundation for the EIVSOM learning system, where psychosocial education, training, and support encourage reflection without immediate pressure or stigma.


Today, EIVSOM continues to position learning as an immediate form of psychosocial support.
